24 Cores Waterproof Fiber Optic Splice Closure 2 In 2 Out Dome Type
A fiber optic splice enclosure is a protective housing used to organize, protect, and manage spliced fibers in telecommunications and cable TV networks. It provides a secure environment for fiber splices (both fusion and mechanical) and excess fiber storage (slack loops) at points where cables are joined, branched, or terminated.
Specifications
Type Typical Installation Description & Use Case
Aerial / Pole-Mount Mounted on utility poles or strand Sealed, dome-shaped or cylindrical closures. Common in outside plant (OSP) networks between poles.
Underground Placed in handholes, manholes, or direct-buried Rugged, watertight, often cylindrical "butt-style" closures for in-line splicing, or larger rectangular ones.
Indoor / Wall-Mount Mounted on walls in buildings, data centers, or telecom rooms Usually simpler, lighter boxes (often plastic) for patch panels or LAN backbone splices.
Key Features
  • Physical Protection: Shields delicate splices from moisture, dust, chemicals, and mechanical damage (crush, impact, vibration)
  • Environmental Sealing: Prevents water ingress, which can degrade fiber performance
  • Fiber Management: Organizes splice trays and slack fiber to maintain minimum bend radius and prevent micro-bends that cause signal loss
  • Access Point: Allows for future re-entry for maintenance, testing, or adding new splices
Installation Guidelines
  • Preparation: Select the right enclosure type for the environment (aerial, buried, etc.). Ensure it has adequate port capacity and splice tray capacity.
  • Cable Preparation: Strip cables to proper lengths, clean fibers, and secure strength members to the enclosure's strain relief points.
  • Routing & Bend Radius: Critical for performance. Fibers must always be routed with a bend radius larger than the minimum specified (typically 30mm for OSP fiber, 15mm for patch cords).
  • Sealing: Follow manufacturer's instructions meticulously for sealing cable ports and main shell. Poor sealing is the most common cause of enclosure failure.
  • Documentation: Update records with enclosure ID, splice map, fiber identifiers, and test results (insertion loss/IL, return loss/ORL).
Application Example
  • A 144-fiber feeder cable runs aerially from the central office
  • At a neighborhood pole, an Aerial Branching Closure is installed. Inside, 48 fibers are spliced to 2x 24-fiber distribution cables that run underground
  • Each underground cable runs to a Buried Pedestal Closure at a street corner
  • Inside the pedestal closure, fibers are branched again via splice trays into 6-fiber drop cables running to nearby homes
  • At the home, a final Small Drop Closure or terminal protects the splice to the pre-terminated indoor cable
