How to test fiber optic patch cord before delivery

Check the Connectors:
End-Face Contamination: This is the #1 cause of failure. Look at the ceramic ferrule (the protruding part) under a microscope. You should see a clean, clear, scratch-free core and cladding.
Never look into a live fiber! Always disconnect both ends before inspection.
Use a fiber inspection microscope (handheld or probe-style). A simple magnifying glass is not sufficient.
Damage: Look for cracks, chips, or scratches on the ceramic ferrule.
Alignment: Ensure the ferrule is straight and not loose.
Check the Cable:
Bends: Ensure there are no sharp kinks or bends tighter than the minimum bend radius (typically 10x the cable diameter for long-term, 5x for short-term).
Stress: Check for pulling, crushing, or other physical damage to the cable jacket.
Labels: Verify the cord type (e.g., OM4, OS2) matches your requirements.
